The idea for this exhibition was initially presented by the Lagos Cultural Centre as “the” Zé Ventura retrospective. But in an artistic career spanning over four decades, it is only really possible to think of “a” retrospective, among the wide range of equally valid proposals for showcasing her career, so great is the number of works of art in which the artist has used so many different techniques and media.

Zé Ventura presents for us, in her works, the following concepts in a figurative form: Time as a moment, with great energy, continuously renewed; Place as a stillness, whilst filling the eye; Structure as form, created by the need of the moment; Light and Colour as a reflection of the place, of the material and the eye itself;
Image as part of the “I” that is part of, and reflects upon itself.

This Book is retrospective of the artist’s work and it was published in the context of “Faro National Capital of Culture 2005”, and based on the exhibitions “Here & Now” (Lagos) and “As Cores do Tempo” that was held in held in Monchique that year, and which was awarded an honorable mention for editorial design in England (London Book Festival).
